Where do I end and you begin?

Mars brings together drawings, collages, objects, and installations that use the Red Planet as a stand-in for the unknown: a space onto which we project ambition, fear, and belief.

Drawing from American mythology, contemporary culture, and the Chinese epic Journey to the West, these works hybridize figures, landscapes, and symbols into layered, unstable narratives. Archetypes collapse into one another: the hero, the villain, the explorer, and the “other” become indistinguishable.

Many of these images originate in constructed studio landscapes: miniature terrains made from earth and light, photographed and reworked through collage and drawing. Across scales and media, the works consider how myth shapes our understanding of place, identity, and difference.

Here, Mars is not a distant world but a mirror: a stage on which we rehearse who we are, where we are going, and how we imagine those beyond ourselves.

This project also marks the beginning of an ongoing investigation into the relationship between ground and sky, where landscapes give way to closer attention to the material world and its connection to larger cosmic systems.
